Shoes, shoes, shoes.

Like I promised, here are photos of the shoes I bought yesterday and a pair my mum picked up for me today.

“Glass slippers.” I wasn’t too sure about this pair at first, mainly because I never wear sparkly shoes but then realized how well they go with my dress! They’re really growing on me and I think they’ll look beautiful on stage.

These are for when I’m playing servant Cinderella. I guess they’re a little too fancy but I like how they have kitten heels- I’m not confident enough to go on stage wearing full-on flats.

My mum did a bit of shopping today and picked up these cute flats for me. I’ve been needing some for school and they are perfect!

I haven’t been so active on Tumblr lately (I’ve let my inbox pile up ridiculously) but I promise I’ll be posting more in a fortnight. Please bear with me until then! There might even be that video post I promised on the horizon.

Butterflies in my stomach.

I went out to pick up my dress and do my Cinderella shoe shopping today. It look a lot longer than expected- picking out a silvery pump that has a decent amount of heel and fits my tiny feet is really a herculean feat. I never wear pumps because of how small my feet are and unsurprisingly, there were none that fit me perfectly so I took them to the cobbler’s and had them add padding like no tomorrow. I also picked up a pair for dressed-in-rags Cinderella. The dress looks gorgeous now that it actually fits me. Since it’s floor-length and I’m wearing 10 cm heels, I actually look tall! Well, proportionately tall anyway- put me next to any normal person and I’ll basically still be a midget. While I was out, I couldn’t resist buying these two earrings. What can I say? They had my name written all over them.

This is basically the last weekend I can relax because the next two weeks are going to be crazy. Opening night is the Tuesday after the next so we are going into war-mode. We are basically starting rehearsals every day after school at 4 until 7:30 with a half hour break for dinner. We’ll be rehearsing on Saturday night as well. Our show will run for three nights then a last show Sunday afternoon. I can hardly believe this is actually happening! I mean, obviously I knew the whole time we would have to face an audience of hundred eventually but it all seemed so far away you know? During my song rehearsal on Friday, my English teacher joked I was a veteran of the stage which has some truth in it but the thing is singing has always been more of my thing. The last time I did any acting in front of an actual audience (ie. not acting class) was in grade 3 when I was Little Red Riding Hood! Gosh, what if I forget my lines?? I’m always forgetting my lyrics when I sing on stage but it’s easy to cover up. Acting is different. Okay, I’m going to stop with the irrational fears now and stop jinxing myself.

With all the hype surrounding The Avengers, I decided to go and see it today as I was out anyway. It definitely lived up to my expectations. At more than one point, the entire theatre was doubling up with laughter. Can I just say Chris Evans is one fine piece of eye candy? ;)

P.S.- Simplified my watermark even more. Think it goes more with the direction I want to take my blog!

Out and About.

Just a couple of purchases from yesterday. A top coat and nail polish from Skin Food and a gorgeous leaf necklace that caught my eye.

I haven’t been very active on Tumblr recently because it’s the last week of winter holidays and I want to make the most of it. Yesterday, I went out with one of my good friends. It felt so good to chat with someone from school because most of my friends don’t live in the same city as me and went home for the holidays. I had an amazing time just walking around the city with her (in heels no less but surprisingly, my feet were quite fine!) and catching up on some gossip. The weather is beginning to show signs of the approaching spring and I could not be less pleased! I have so many items of clothing just sitting in my closet waiting for the new season.

My friend and I belted out a couple of tunes at KTV (with the help of Breezers. I hardly ever drink alcohol but I like to make some exceptions when out with friends. Even then, I never go past one drink that is virtually non-alcoholic. Like a Breezer or something) and stuffed ourselves until our bellies were twice their size at a korean barbecue. I honestly have no idea what I ate except that it was all delicious! I can’t believe the last time I had Korean food was two years ago on my 16th birthday. So halfway into the meal, my friend suggested we go to this bar called Cat Eye. Apparently, it has a really chill atmosphere and amazing music. Unfortunately, she had to go home early so our plans fell through. In case you were wondering, in China, you don’t need an ID to enter bars/clubs/buy alcohol. Honestly, it’s a miracle how no one at my school abuses alcohol (not to my knowledge anyway). At the end of the day, we grabbed some frozen yogurt for dessert and just chatted about being a senior, next semester’s Cinderella musical (she’s a stepsister), graduation and our plans for the future.

My new Blackberry case and phone purse (or whatever you call it) finally came in the mail! I’m really glad I went with the white brim in the end because I’m so sick of my silver one plus the white is slightly glittery like the rest of the case which is absolutely gorgeous! I also bought a maroon battery cover (can’t see it in the photo) which goes better with the white than I expected. The rest of my diary deco also came but I’ll make a separate post for that!

There are only two weeks of winter holidays left for me and I’m trying to make the best of it. My days are spent practicing the guitar (I love it but it’s so difficult since I have tiny hands…), writing, watching old movies, reading The Great Gatsby (I STILL have not finished it because I haven’t left much time for reading), writing and memorizing my lines for Cinderella. I’ve been so busy that I haven’t read through my dashboard in weeks! Hopefully I’ll produce some higher quality posts this week. I really need to get my body clock under control in preparation for school. That means, no more sleeping at 1 am and getting up at 1 pm. Definitely easier said than done…

Chasing my dreams.

I have some very exciting news (well, for me anyway)! Tomorrow, I’m starting vocal + guitar lessons. Music has been a huge part of my life since before I can remember (my mum says I used to stage singing performances for my grandparents as a toddler) and my love for singing just came naturally. However, despite all my previous stage experience (if you have been following me for a while, you’ll know what I’m talking about), I still don’t think I’m good enough. I have a passion for singing but I am far from perfect. I’ve always wanted lesson to touch up on the technical skills you know? As for the guitar, I’ve wanted to learn for so long. The strum of that instrument is just so beautiful to my ears and I love how a guitar can accompany virtually any song. In a nutshell, I’m stoked for tomorrow, 1pm. Wish me luck!

I also want to share with everyone some of the purchases I made yesterday. I don’t usually shop this much but with my aunt and uncle here, my mum has been dragging them and the family around all the major malls in our city. Not that I’m complaining…

Statement rings are almost always too big for me so I was immediately swayed by this beautiful piece with an adjustable band. It will be perfect for spring!

A lovely faux-vintage brass headband. I don’t usually wear headbands but this was too beautiful to pass up and plus, it would be a great accessory for an updo.

I was hesitant about getting this nail polish because I’ve never seen the brand before (a Chinese one) but after using it, I love it! It’s super easy to apply and dries pretty fast too. All that’s left to do is wait out a few days and see it’s life span. Nail polish chips so easily on me!

A bookmark I just couldn’t resist buying. I love anything with a vintage feel to it.

I picked up some deco for my journal. I might post the results after I received the rest of the deco I ordered online if it’s not too hideous :)

I hope everyone else had a wonderful day! xx

Let’s try something new.

I stocked up on some much needed winter items for my closet the day before and I thought I’d share my find with everyone!

  • Boots from H&M: most of my winter footwear are heels so I knew I had to get these when I saw them! They are perfect for long shopping trips.

  • Cardigan from H&M: the photo definitely does not do it justice. The fabric is a sheer cotton and so comfortable to wear. This was actually a last minute discovery of mine on my way out of the dressing room but I can see it becoming a favourite as the weather becomes warmer as a versatile cover up for dresses or even tank top and jeans.
  • Trench coat from Urban Renewal: I’m not sure where this brand is from but I’m positive it’s not the same as the one from Urban Outfitters. Probably just a Chinese or HK brand. Anyway, I am crazy about this coat! Again, seeing in on a coat hanger is much less flattering than on a person. It is a trench coat with a twist! What I love about it is it’s mysterious “Sherlock” collar- my sister swears I look like a female version of Sherlock Holmes wearing it. The defined waist line also caught my eye as did the skirt-like hem. It’s a perfect mixture of masculinity and femininity.
  • Blazer jacket from Urban Renewal: Believe it or not, I have never owned a single blazer (well apart from the one in my school uniform). Being a petite girl, they always have a way of swallowing my entire form and making me look shorter than ever. However this jacket works for me. The sleeves are too long but I can easy get this fixed at tailor’s. Since getting it, I’ve been going crazy saving inspiration images of girls in blazers on tumblr fashion blogs.

  • Trench coat From ZARA: this coat was definitely heaven-sent! I’ve been search for a warm, timeless piece like this forever. I love the Audrey Hepburn feel of it with the collar up!

    • Cable knit coat from H&M: not something I could use in the current weather but once it gets warmer, I’m sure this would get a lot of wear. The colour and fit were just too perfect for me to pass this up!

    • Cardigan from H&M: this has to be one of my favourite purchases of the lot. It’s totally flattering on my figure and I love the cranberry colour. My winter closet is literally 90% different shades of grey…so depressing. I feel a need for change, to shake things up a little. I want to push my boundaries, fashion-wise. I want to try new patterns, new styles and new colours. Whether it be a blazer or a brighter hue!

    • Dress from H&M: my mum actually picked this out for me and while I had reservations about it at first, I quite like it. Being short (oh the woes) long dresses do nothing for me, but the flowy quality of this dress makes up for that.

    • Sweater from H&M: not one of my favourite buys but it’s different from what I usually wear and I’m excited about trying out new combinations with it. I like how I can wear it as a dress though because I prefer wearing leggings in winter as opposed to actual pants. Winter wear is bulky enough without stuffing jeans into boots!

    • Dress from H&M: I saw this dress on a rack outside the fitting rooms in exactly my size. I think it was the last one left because I couldn’t find it anywhere else int he store! Fate? I think so. It’s perfect for singing performances and I can see myself wearing it for my school’s next No Pop Concert.

I feel as though I’ve played it too safe with my current closet and I’m getting bored. I really want to discover me and my style this year so a lot of experimenting is in store!

After resting for two days from my exhausting trip, I finally returned to school yesterday and was met with a lovely surprise. My friend gave me a really cute, bronze necklace as a late Christmas present!
You may have noticed I have not used a watermark in a while. Reason: I got sick of my old watermark and couldn’t be bothered to make a new one. However, I felt rather inspired today so here’s a new watermark!

      Cocktail dresses (and other stuff)

Just a couple of dresses I bought in Guangzhou and HK. The first three are from H&M and the last is from Cotton On. They were having these massive sales so I picked up these dresses and also a few cardigans, a scarf a a few pairs of gloves.

I especially adore the third dress. It’s a tad more mature than what I usually wear but I need to experiment with more different styles. It’s kind of sexy but not overboard so it’s really classy at the same time. Can’t wait for an occasion to wear it!

      Skin care & Stuff

I stayed at home sick again today. I always seem to get sick on Mondays…it really sucks because I hate missing school. Catching up, if only one day, is hell. Anyway, I just wanted to make a quick post on a few skin care products my mum bought me before going back to drinking my warm fluids and lying on my used-Kleenex infested bed.

All of these products are from a Chinese brand called Limi, which is targeted towards young adults. I usually buy from this brand because their products are really gentle, perfect if you have crazily sensitive skin as I do.

The first thing I got is a Red Wine Arousing SOS Mask. I mentioned it once in this post about how it clears and rejuvenates my skin. They have changed the packaging since I bought it last and it is so cute!

Next, I decided to try their Honey Sweet line. I got a nourishing lotion, nourshing essence and nourishing cream. The lotion is actually a toner -Engrish fail-. I don’t know if these products are available outside of China but if they are, I highly recommend them! Besides, who could resist the super cute packaging?

      10/13/11

My lovely mother picked up a few cosmetic needs for me to use for my competition. First is Revlon’s Bare It All Lustrous Powder which is basically a highlighter, perfect to achieve glowing skin under the spotlight. Next, she got me Revlon’s Luxurious Colour Eyeliner in 07 Sparking Silver to highlight the corners of my eyes and my waterline. Finally, as per request, a pair of falsies. I would have preferred fuller ones but I guess these will do. Oddly, no matter how much I try, I am never able to wear falsies more than once. I always lose them some way or another. My most recent experience was wrapping it up in some tissue then, later on, forgetting the contents and tossing it away into the garbage. Such a waste :(

In less than 3 hours, I will be leaving for Guangzhou. Better hit the sack and catch some much need ZZZs.

My new iPad case! Finally got the chance to upload these photos. I love its vintage leather-bound diary look. It’s like a disguise! :P I want to buy a mini keyboard for my iPad so I can use it when we need to write essays or take notes during class. Much more convenient than my bulky, back-breaking laptop.

I got all my supplies for school today! I’m so lucky to have a stationary store near my house that stocks everything I need in my taste. There were so many cute notebooks that choosing was almost rendered impossible. I also bought myself a new homework planner (the little floral notebook). My last one is scratched, tattered and dog-eared- basically, it has been through high school hell. It was time to lay it to rest and invest in a replacement. My new planner is smaller which makes it easier to stuff into my bag and also hard-covered to protect against my neglect…

I am also working on a new theme. I feel as though it is time for a change and once school begins, no way will I am time to make one. Also because I am ready for something a tad simpler than my current theme.

The clothes I bought while in Shanghai. Strange how I got them all from H&M even though we went around to many different stores.

      1. I can’t wait to wear this blouse as soon as the weather becomes cooler. It kind of reminds me of the one I lost on the train to Beijing but even better! It’s so light, breezy and vintage-esque.
      2. My photo has deformed this top but in reality, it’s perfect! One of my favourite purchases. It’s casual but the twist neck gives it a hint of those vintage cocktail dress styles making it fun and flirty at the same time. It also comes in light pink.
      3. A basic tee for layering and casual days.
      4. Ditto. I like to wear this with a belt to clinch the waist for more definition.
      5. I fell in love with this dress the minute I laid eyes on it and knew I just had to have it!
      6. A fun, quirky little dress. Again, I like to clinch the waist with a belt as some of you may have seen in my travel posts.

Wow I bought a lot of stuff yesterday Most of them (okay, all of them) were impulse purchases I made while waiting for the 5:30 pm showing of HP 7. I had about 5 hours to kill and a wallet full of cash and, well, you can see what happens with such a combination…

Time sure flies by. It seems just like yesterday that I was sulking about not being able to see the last installment of Harry Potter with the rest of the world (with the exception of South Korea-I feel for those guys, I really do). But August 4th crept up to me in the blink of an eye.

I only have one word to describe my first IMAX experience: a m a z i n g. It’s so righ that I left my IMAX-ginity for HP I left the theatre, make-up smudged from tears and ears drinking the theme music while the credits rolled, knowing it would be the last time the tune would be played in the cinemas.

Before the movie, I also did some shopping (a full haul will be posted tomorrow!) and got Harry scar earrings Wore them immediately for the movie. I also stumbled across a cute store selling model wands- Harry’s and also the Elder wand. Touching it felt so…creepy. I think I take Harry Potter too seriously

Also doodled on a Dairy Queen napkin (hence the smoothie stain) in anticipation. Anyway, I am now officially caught up with the rest of the world! All I need now is to register on Pottermore and my life will be complete <3
