I think I’ve answered a similar question before but I can’t find it.
The fundamental base of a personal blog? I believe it is to have a space in which to express your true self, to throw away your insecurities of being judged, to develop your creativity and to find inspiration. Having a personal blog has exposed me to so many wonderful people from all over the world and has made it possible for me to tap into my inner self and create in a way I never thought I was capable of. What I have said seems so vague but you can only really understand it if you have experienced it. This blog has gotten me through hard times and with my reflective posts and the support of other bloggers. All I can say is that blogging has changed me for the better.
Making friends on Tumblr is simple enough. Most bloggers here are really friendly and willing to chat, me included! Just shoot someone an ask and initiate a conversation. Through their posts, you can see if you will get along with a particular blogger or if you have shared interests.
There are no rules to personal blogging. Whether you want to post your stream-of-consciousness, stories or photos is up to you. That is the beauty of it: it is all up to you.
I am assuming you mean how to gain an audience/followers by your last question. Well, first of all, it should not be your main concern when it comes to blogging. Sure, having a lot of followers is rather flattering at first but you come to realize its meaningless. From my blogging experience, I have noticed I have never even talked to 98% of my followers. Focus on gaining real friendships through blogging. Like I previously said, to do so is easy enough. You just have to be friendly and willing.
I hope this has somewhat helped! Like all activities, personal blogging is not for everyone but for some, it is a life-changing hobby.
