I‘ve wanted to watch this movie ever since hearing about it from my drama teacher who was going to take our class to see it for a project (Fairytale parodies in case you’re curious. We ended up doing Peter Pan & I was Tinkerbell
). But, surprise surprise, the movie was not released in China, thus shattering my hopes for the future of this country. I mean, if the government procrastinates on minor details such as movie releases, how will they ever get anything done?? But I digress.
The main reason I wanted to see this so badly was because of Amanda Seyfried. She is definitely one of my favourite actresses. She has this whole oh-look-I’m-a-wide-eyed-innocent-damsel-so-not-in-distress thing going on for her that I love
Also, I’m a huge sucker for movies derived from fairytales.
First impression? Beautiful scenery. & cute boy playing love interest. Second impression? Still beautiful scenery. & how did the cute boy grow into plain boy? Third impression? Awkward dialogue or, at times, lack thereof. & WTF the scorned potential lover is smokin’ HOT -googles Max Irons, drools for a while then returns to the movie- Overall, the movie had unoriginal dialogue, a pointless plot that left many ends untied and the viewer unsatisfied. The cinematography was breathtaking though. They should’ve fired the screenplay writer then all would have been peachy. HOWEVER, if you’re looking for some eye candy, I would definitely recommend. Max Irons is just so dreamy
Pros: amazing scenery, good acting on Amanda’s part, serious eye candy, interesting to see how they incorporated material from the original story in this adaption.
Cons: awkward dialogue, messy plot, unsatisfactory ending, many pointless scenes, does not engage audience, no chemistry between the leading actors.
Bottom line: I was rather disappointed
